I Left the Husband Who Hid Our Marriage—and Became His Biggest Business Partner

Five years into my secret marriage to Felix, our company took us on a team-building retreat. During a game, he was told to call the last person he’d kissed. I thought we were finally going to stop hiding our marriage. Then my best friend’s phone rang. Her caller ID lit up with: “Favorite Boyfriend ❤️.” Felix slipped an arm around her, took every drink meant for her, and let everyone tease them like a couple. Yet he insisted that hiding our marriage was for my own good. When I asked for a divorce, he laughed and told me not to regret it. When a hurricane hit, my father became critically ill. I begged Felix to call in his family’s medical connections to save him, but he thought I was trying to pressure him into giving in—and hung up. That night, I lost my father—and whatever love I had left for Felix. I resigned, filed for divorce, and accepted the job I had once turned down because of him. Only later did Felix realize how much of the success he was proud of rested on the work I had done behind the scenes. When he finally admitted in public that I was his wife, I told him only this: “Felix, I don't need your belated acknowledgment anymore.”
